Stereotypes

We face stereotypes everyday. "Costeños are loud" and "you can't understand women" are just one example of the many we encounter daily in our life. And the reason why they are so hurtful is because we can shape our perception of the world and it's people with them and because of that get a distorted perception of our reality and others reality as well. Take for example United States'd President Donald Trump who based on his hateful stereotypes directed towards many social groups in the country such as Muslims, Latinx immigrants, indigenous natives and other minorities has created a massive campaign of hate, discrimination and bigotry.
In 2018 Trump proposed what media denominated The Muslim Ban, a law that forbid any citizen from Syria, Iran, Lybia, Yemen, Somalia, North Korea and Venezuela to enter to the United States, for a VISA or seek Asylum. The president's stereotypes that "All Muslims are Terrorists" spite the fact that the last 10 terrorist attacks on the country have been perpetuated by white american men only showed how wrong his views were and thankfully uncredited this proposal for the best. Still is a nightmare for many Muslims to go through airport security. And They suffer harrassment and invasion of privacy in almost every city across the American Land.
Seeing someone so powerful as the head of the state of one of the most powerful countries in the world express himself so wrong about the others has encouraged many hateful citizens to emulate this behaviour increasing the hate crimes and just making others life more difficult.
The fact that Trump bases his political proposals on personal hateful stereotypes is very dangerous for American society and goes against their self proclaimed ideals of "land of the free and home of the brave''.
